“I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” (Lamentations 3:24).
Have you ever felt hopeless, worthless, or just downright useless? Have you been in a situation where life has lost its meaning and all hope is lost? Have you been in a situation where you almost gave up? I am sure all of us have gone through such situations in life. This past year has been a big struggle for me physically, financially and spiritually. I was not sure if I would have a roof over my head and whether I would be able to provide for my family. Keeping my faith through all these troubles was a struggle. Every time I felt there was no hope the verse of Jeremiah came to mind and it never fails to fill me with hope even to this day. Jeremiah 1:5 states, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
What powerful words! Through this verse God speaks to us personally, filling us with the hope that He knew us before we were formed and he has a plan for us and everything that is happening in our lives is as per His will.
When we read the scriptures we see many instances filling us with hope. From the first book of the bible to the last book the pages are filled with hope. We see Abraham never losing hope in the Lord and he waits patiently for the Lord’s promise to take effect in his life and we see this happening in his old age. So have you been married for long and praying for a child? Are you on the verge of giving up? Hope in the Lord and you will see him work a miracle in your life today. All of us are sinners and go about sinning every day of our life and sometimes our sins are so dark and so many. The bible tells us that there is hope for every sinner. We see this happening with the women caught in adultery. Jesus comforts her and fills her with the words of hope. “Neither do I condemn you go; and from now on sin no more”. (Jn 8:10-11)
This verse fills us with hope that even if you are caught in a serious sin and at a time of public shame and humiliation, there is room for forgiveness, even for the worst sins. So are you one of those filled with guilt and shame wondering, “will my sins be ever forgiven?” stop worrying and take it to the Lord and hope in him and he will set you free from your sins. How many times we heard ourselves and others say, it’s no use, I don’t think God is there, if he were I wouldn’t be suffering from this sickness for so long…and so on and give up turn away from God. But the bible tells us differently. We see in Mt 9:20 a woman suffering with a bleeding disorder for twelve years on seeing Jesus passing through the crowd reaches out to touch Jesus in the hope that she be healed and her hope is rewarded and Jesus heals her completely.
Are you a childless couple then there is a verse of hope in the Bible for you. Have you lost everything in life like Job then there is a verse of hope in the Bible for you. I can go on and on. The word of God fills us with hope and there is a message of hope for every situation in our life and all we have to do is to turn to Him and constantly nourish our lives by reading the word of God.
While every verse in the bible has touched me and helped me in times of trouble the two verses which never fails to fill me with hope are; Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Lk 23:43). This verse fills me with the hope that no matter what I have been in this earthly life, if I truly confess that He is the Lord and turn away from a life of sin I will have a place in heaven. He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon” (Rev 22:20).
