Thy Words are Powerful

My child be attentive to my words and Incline your ear to my sayings, Do not let them escape from your sight and Keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them and healing to all their flesh” (Prov 4:20-22).

In this fast moving world, where there is competitive struggle in our day to day activities, we often need to pause and reflect on God’s healing word. While we as children of God try to cope up with our daily pressures we tend to focus our energies towards our careers, finances, children education health etc and how we could better cope with the neighbours’ competition.

Very often we find ourselves making choices through our words. Our words have power to influence the lives and this can be in any of the five areas of our life such as body, soul, mind, finances and family. It’s very imperative to learn the power of our mind and heart and its influence of our words. Jesus teaches us: “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person brings good things out of good treasure and the evil person brings evil things out of an evil treasure. For by your words you can be justified and by your words you can be condemned” (Mt 12: 34-37).

While God’s mercy is in abundance we also play an important role and our words are like containers. It depends on the choice we make to fill it with positive declarations or negative impacts in our life. These containers are filled with the abundance of our hearts and mind through obedience to the word of God. It is essential that we learn to obey God’s will by Reading his word, reflecting on it daily to able to understand his daily instructions for us each day and how we can attain his abundant Grace. In Proverbs 3: 1-2 God says: “My children, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments for the length of days and years of life and abundant welfare they will give you.”

So let us make a firm resolution to make a choice to use the right words in line with God’s word to bring healing and blessings into our lives. It takes two essential elements: “Faith” in the word of God, no matter what the situation is and “Grace” of the Lord Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Through our daily prayers and our communion with God, we can follow the voice of the Holy Spirit and the Lord will direct us to come in line with the plans he has for us. We should be attentive to follow the voice of the Good Shepherd. For God says “For surely I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, Plans for your welfare and not for harm to give you a future filled with hope” (Jer 29:11).

Let us then walk hand in hand with Jesus to declare the Glory of the Lord in our daily words and actions and thereby bringing alive the Promises in the Word of God
