Moments of contact without noticing anybody

How do we spend our time every day? Sometimes we are in the company of our friends or alone. Sometimes we are busy in our daily task or free. God gifted us time to make use for the greater glory of God. We all of us agree that we find free time in one or another way every day. If we make use of those moments to connect ourselves with God we will have tremendous change in our way of living. Let’s see a Carmelite saint of 20th century has to say about keeping touch with the divine in every moment of our life.

Pope Francis canonized St. Elizabeth of Trinity on 16th October 2016. One of the sayings of St. Elisabeth that touched my heart most is “moments of contact without noticing anybody.”  Here she says moments like when you wait outside the door or booking office or waiting for a bus we need to connect ourselves with the divine saying short prayers. Yes, when we connect ourselves with the divine every moment our heart, mind, body and soul receive divine touch. Our entire being experiences heavenly bliss. Our desires are purified. The work that we have planned to do will be blessed by God. Our relationship with others will be edifying. We set our goals according to the will of God. Our fear, anxieties helplessness and doubt will find answer in God. Every opportunity that God offers becomes meaningful. In another words we become more charitable. We make every moment for the glory of God. I believe this is the way that we need to travel and this is the royal road of holiness. It is true those moments of contact without noticing anybody with the divine brings blessings in abundance. Always we need to keep in mind that all are called to have touch with the divine weather we are in set apart for prayer or we are on our work.

Blessed Luigi Orione so beautifully said about having touch with God. She says “Without prayer nothing good is done. God’s works are done with our hands joined, and on our knees. Even when we run, we must remain spiritually kneeling before him.” This is the holistic way of living on this earthly journey. Once a preacher advised in his preaching saying “you can achieve everything with kneeling legs.” Here Blessed Luigi invites us to kneel spiritually even when we run. Blessed Luigi knew the power of prayer that is made in folding hands and kneeling legs. Even this act can be done spiritually. But most of the times we see people spending their time holding electronic media and watching all that divert us from our holistic journey. We need to train ourselves to make every single minute to focus on divine things. A devotee prayed like this: God lift my hearts and minds on heavenly things. Attune to the Spirit of God who teaches us to live every moment for the greater cause. Lk 12:12 says “The Holy Spirit will teach you at that very hour what you have to say.” In the same way the Spirit of God will teach us what we have to do in every moment of our life. God said to Jeremiah “For I know the plans I have you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This is the divine plan of God for all of us. To discern the plan of God we have to be available to God. how can we available to God? Only when our mind is focused and hearts are attentive to the divine voice. This divine voice can be heard when we are in the presence of God. this presence of God is felt wherever we are.

No one can say that they can live without the touch of God.  The mystic saint St. Faustian says  “A soul arms itself by prayer for all kinds of combat. In whatever state the soul may be, it ought to pray. A soul which is pure and beautiful must pray, or else it will lose its beauty; a soul which is striving after this purity must pray, or else it will never attain it; a soul which is newly converted must pray, or else it will fall again; a sinful soul, plugged in sins, must pray so that it might rise again. There is no soul which is not bound to pray, for every single grace comes to the soul through prayer.” Every soul has to make effort to be with the divine. Day by day our thrust to have intimacy with God should increase. Every step we take should be towards the divine.

Dear Jesus, help me to connect myself with you in all the moments of my life through prayer. May I experience your divine presence deep in my heart always. The life that you have given me as a gift may bring glory to you.
